This Saturday, Aug. 24, Wildhaven Ranch will host its ninth annual fund-raising event, Arrowhead Goes Wild.

At 4 p.m. guests will gather for a VIP wildlife tour, following the footprints of bobcat, deer, raccoon, coyote and bear. When they arrive at the Bear Creek habitat, they will enjoy champagne and sparkling cider, grilled black tiger shrimp, grilled quesadillas and coconut curry chicken sates.

Dinner and its accompanying auctions will begin at 6 p.m. The menu will include salad, a grilled squash medley, apple-stuffed and chili-glazed pork tenderloins, lemon and basil salmon, penne pasta in a pesto sauce, and grilled spiced pineapple and bananas with whipped cream, all prepared by Creative Catering.

Some of the highest bidding takes place at the live auction when the Animal Ambassadors are adopted for the year, from Little Bear, Snickers, Misha and Bayley to Lexus the bobcat, Wiley the coyote and Patriot the bald eagle. Guests can also bid on brunch or lunch with the bears, win a “Wild Nite” dinner with a walk in the forest listening to the night sounds of wild animals identified by Wildhaven staff or enjoy a day with a master falconer while he hunts with his bird of prey.

There will also be a number of silent auction items—including some baskets with Hollywood memorabilia—on which guests can bid.

The special guest celebrity at this year’s event is Zack Heart, the Australian wildlife specialist and conservationist known as Outback Zack. His primary interests are mammals, birds and cognitive ethology—the study of animal minds.

Heart is a licensed trapper and trained wildlife search and rescue tech, having rescued countless animals. He plans to film Wildhaven’s black bears for one of his programs.

“We are very excited to have our bears become stars!” said Diane Dragotto Williams, Wildhaven’s executive director.

Music for the gala will be provided by Rachel Right and the Wrongs.

Tickets for the VIP wildlife tour are $30 for adults, $20 for children. Dinner tickets alone are $65; tickets for both the tour and the gala are $95. An early bird discount ticket for $75 is available for both events.

Call (909) 337-1391, (909) 226-6189 or e-mail ddwilliams@hughes.net to make a reservation.
