It was four years ago when Derek Bobadilla and his family began exploring the option of moving their lives to the mountain. Having lived down the hill in the city, he emphasized that they were looking for a change of pace and, since they always visited, living up here just made sense.

“We never thought of our dream coming true. We wanted to be somewhere where we could experience all four seasons.”

However, the family did not relocate to the mountain just for the atmosphere and seasons. He saw an opportunity to bring his expertise and knowledge to the mountain communities, as well.

With American Pacific Mortgage, Bobadilla offers his customers more than 30 different mortgage products. But, before he opened his office in Lake Arrowhead, he took the time to roam the mountain, getting to know the homes and the environment in which he would be working.

“I wanted to break into new territory...a new area,” Bobadilla said. “But first I had to figure out the houses up here. Once I did that, I figured out how to create my niche.”

Bobadilla has been working with mortgage loans for 17 years, but still decided that it was best to study this area before opening an office, because every location is different. Especially up here on the mountain.

“That’s why I waited four years before opening my office,” he explained.

As of now, the goal for American Pacific Mortgage Lake Arrowhead is to expand — to grow the team and begin interacting with more people around the mountain.

Bobadillo expressed that this business has provided a smaller, more intimate setting for people. It is a family-style business, where the client gets to know him and his team, and vice versa. This is used as a way to establish trust between the client and the team.

He has made his business more accessible by incorporating technology into his work model. He made available an uncomplicated electronic mortgage application for smartphones and accepts online applications, as well. He is also open to office visits, for an in-person application process. “I can accommodate to their needs. I am assertive and I like to get things done.”

An important part of his business, Bobadilla shared, is to follow the platinum rule: ‘Treat others the way you want to be treated.’ In doing this, he is able to establish a rapport and respect with his clients and ensure that they feel comfortable with the process, every step of the way.

Bobadilla is invested in the community and is a part of the Lake Arrowhead Rotary noon club and Rim Realtors Association for Lake Arrowhead and Big Bear.

“Family always comes first,” he concluded, adding that, to him, relationships are most important.
