When people go to the doctor for an annual physical, getting their hearing checked usually falls off of their radar. It is important to remember that just as you get your eyes and teeth checked every year, getting your hearing checked needs to be done as well.

“Getting your hearing checked needs to be included into your medical check-up routine,” said Dave Longeuay, a licensed hearing instrument specialist. “Your hearing should be checked, tested and monitored all through life so specialists can catch the loss of hearing if there is one.”

It is important that the loss of hearing is caught sooner, rather than later.

For 31 years, Dave and Sheri Longeuay have been committed to improving the hearing of people. Both are licensed hearing instrument specialists. Although their primary office is in Anaheim, Dave and Sheri have opened up an office in Lake Arrowhead Village, making them the only hearing instrument specialists on the mountain. They come up on the second and fourth weekends of every month.

Sheri, who struggles with hearing, wears a hearing aid and can relate to patients on a personal level due to her experience with hearing aids. When Sheri was a kid she had difficulty hearing, but it was nothing serious until she was about 30 years old. She began to notice a difference in her hearing, and looked to get help right away. Though there has been a stigma when it comes to wearing hearing aids, it is important to note that, with advanced technology, hearing aids have become more practical and easier to use—they are almost invisible as well.

Sheri’s hearing aid is so small, if you are not looking for it, you will not see it. This is how the hearing aids are now, and the comfort level with wearing them has gone up as well.

“People forget that we do not hear with our ears only, we hear with our brains,” Dave said. According to Dave, if people suffer from hearing loss, there is a possibility they can forget speech as well. This only enhances the importance of getting your hearing checked annually.

Suffering from hearing loss can put a strain on not only your relationship with yourself, but the relationship with family and friends as well. Not being able to hear, and needing for others to constantly repeat themselves, can create frustration on both ends.

“Hearing loss can cause headaches, fatigue and loss of focus,” Sheri said. With loss of focus, loved ones may think you are not listening to them on purpose. This of course is not the case, but it is one major reason hearing loss can affect relationships.

“We have seen that relationships improve after the use of hearing aids,” Sheri said.

Crystal Clear Hearing Aids makes the process of getting your hearing checked incredibly easy. Free hearing tests are available, and patients are not only allowed, but recommended, to try out a hearing aid first, before purchasing it. If the patient is happy after their trial, they can purchase the aid; if not, other options are available.

Customer satisfaction comes first for Dave and Sheri. “We want our patients to know that they do not bother us when they call us with questions,” Dave said. Dave, Sheri and the rest of the Crystal Clear staff put their patients as their number one priority. This is why they offer a loner hearing aid; if a patient needs their hearing aid repaired, they are issued a loner hearing aid while the other gets fixed. This ensures that the patient will not go one day without hearing.

“We can get our patients a loner hearing aid that same day,” Sheri said. “This means our patients can go on with their normal routine with no problem.”

Crystal Clear Hearing Aids accepts most insurances, and are mobile as well. If you cannot make it to the office and need assistance, Dave and Sheri will come to you. If the drive is within five miles from them, the trip is free. There is a $50 charge for patients outside of that five-mile radius.

Remember, as Dave says, “Your hearing loss is more obvious without hearing aids.”
