For as long as she can remember, Yolanda Burrows, owner of My Favorite Things in Crestline’s Historic Top Town, has been passionate about art, crafts and decorative pieces.

“The store has all of my favorite things,” Burrows said. “That is how the name of the store came to be.”

Not only does My Favorite Things carry all of Burrows’ passions, it carries things that other people are passionate about as well. Crafts, chalk paint, collage making, decorative paper, jewelry, candles and more can be found in the store.

Burrows has been in her current shop for about eight years, and says the location she is in is the perfect spot for her store. Being surrounded by friendly neighbors who run unique shops like Burrows’ and the small town atmosphere are what make running a shop easy and enjoyable.

When she started My Favorite Things in Top Town, Burrows was known for being a florist—she incorporated this in her store by selling flower arrangements—however, she eventually left that passion to pursue another one. It was an easy transition, and Burrows realized how much more she could do with her shop now that flowers were not the centerpiece of her store.

“I bring in things that interest me to the store,” Burrows said. “I enjoy being a part of my business.”

Customers can find Burrows at her store whenever it is open; she says the more passion, time and dedication she puts into her store, the more success her store has.

What really took My Favorite Things by storm was Burrows’ decision to begin selling Annie Sloan chalk paint—making the store the only place on the mountain to sell this high-quality paint.

“The opportunity came to me about six or seven years ago,” Burrows said. “I’m an Annie Sloan chalk paint stockist,” adding she only carries the Annie Sloan brand because it is one of a kind and the original chalk paint.

Painting with Annie Sloan’s chalk paint is a completely different experience than painting with any other type of paint, and that is what Burrows enjoys the most about it.

“It is a completely different style,” Burrows said. “It is creative; you can paint varnish with it, metal, plastic, furniture and more without primer. It is truly an amazing product.”

Burrows offers decorative chalk paint classes at My Favorite Things as a way to get others enthusiastic about the wonders that this paint can do. The basics of the class cover how to use the paint in general, and how to add a creative twist to each piece that is worked on.

“I enjoy people, and I love being with my favorite things,” Burrows said.
