The Crest Forest Women's Club, in the spirit of Bavarian gaiety, is sponsoring the first-ever Crestline Oktoberfest, to be held at the San Moritz Lodge on Sunday, Oct. 23 from 2 to 6 p.m.
Members of the club will be steaming bratwurst in beer and serving them with German potato salad, red cabbage, a pickle and a baked apple. Children will enjoy hot dogs with carrot sticks, applesauce, a bag of chips and juice.
Coffee, tea and lemonade will be available at no charge. Members of the Crest Forest Senior Citizens' Club will be selling beer and wine.
Nikki Ott, president of the women's club and a professional costumer, has made authentic Oktoberfest costumes for the ladies who will be selling beer and raffle tickets.
There will be dancing to the tunes of The Alpine Quintett, under the direction of Al Wehrle. The band has just returned from a week's engagement at the Royal Hawaiian in Hawaii.
Crestline merchants have been very generous with donations. There will be six baskets laden with goodies offered as raffles; other raffle items include a free complete tax return, a smog certificate, three tattoo certificates valued at over $200, tickets to the Angels team in San Bernardino, a complete health directive and restaurant gift certificates. There will also be three door prizes, as well as souvenir T-shirts and glass mugs for sale.
All proceeds from the event, dubbed "Beer, Band and Bratwurst," will go to the Crest Forest Women's Club scholarship fund for graduating Crestline students from the class of 2012. Last year the club awarded six $500 scholarships; the members have set a goal of eight for this year.
Tickets, available at McCabe & Company Booksellers, are $20 for adults, $10 for children 12 and under.
