A motorcycle accident on State Highway 18 near the 4,000-foot level took the life of a 38-year-old male resident of San Bernardino on April 20. His female passenger suffered major injuries and was transported by ground ambulance to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, according to a press release from the Arrowhead office of the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

The driver, a Hispanic male the approximate age of 38, suffered major injuries and succumbed to his injuries at the scene. According to the San Bernardino County Coroner’s office, the name of the male is being withheld pending notification of his family. The female passenger has been identified as Gladys Guevara, a 29-year-old female resident of Colton.

CHP officers responded around 7:58 p.m. to the scene at mile post marker 16.00 near Crest Forest Drive, Crestline. A preliminary report stated that the white 2015 Ducati 1299 motorcycle was traveling northbound on SR-18 at an undetermined speed. From the No. 2 lane, the driver attempted to negotiate a right-hand curve in the roadway. For reasons still under investigation, the driver lost control, causing him and his passenger to be ejected.

The Ducati and its riders subsequently slid across the No. 1 lane and hit the center guardrail. It is unknown if alcohol and/or drugs are a factor in this collision. CHP Officer Nitto will handle the investigation to its conclusion.
