The 70-year-old suspect was just cruising along Lake Gregory Drive in Crestline at 12:44 a.m. when a deputy conducted a traffic stop because the vehicle’s license plate was obstructed. The driver allegedly said the methamphetamine in the vehicle was for his own personal use. Nevertheless, the driver was arrested for possession of drugs for sale.

Farrell David Widner was driving a GMC truck with the obstructed license plate. During the traffic stop, the deputy asked whether there was anything illegal inside the vehicle. Widner reportedly admitted there was a baggie of methamphetamine inside the vehicle’s center console.

The deputy reported that he asked Widner to step out of the vehicle to conduct a search of his person. According to the deputy’s report, Widner had $322 in his front left pocket.

The deputy next searched the vehicle as Widner waited. The report states that the deputy found a scale with methamphetamine residue on it. He also found approximately 150 small plastic baggies (consistent with the kind of packaging used to sell narcotics), and a baggie of a white crystalline substance. The deputy described the substance as being consistent with the look and appearance of methamphetamine.

The deputy reported that he read Widner his rights, and under Miranda, Widner allegedly admitted the baggie contained methamphetamine and was approximately four grams in weight.

Widner also told the deputy that the scale and bags were for personal use and the he did not sell methamphetamine, according to the deputy’s report. Total weight of all the methamphetamine found was 12.43 grams, the report stated.

Widner was placed under arrest on suspicion of possession of narcotics for sales. He was booked at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga without incident.

The same day, around 6 p.m., Widner was released on bail. No court appearance had been scheduled.
