Two separate incidents involving counterfeit money, one in Rimforest and one in Lake Arrowhead, might be connected, according to a report released by the Twin Peaks Sheriff’s Station on Monday.

A white male adult, 30 to 40 years old, entered The Depot convenience store at the Valero gas station in Rimforest on Oct. 28 and attempted to pass two counterfeit $20 bills and a counterfeit $100 bill. The employee refused to accept the money and managed to confiscate the $20 bills. The employee notified authorities a few minutes after midnight.

The unidentified male subject left the location in an older model Chevrolet Tahoe, which might have been white, tan or silver. Video surveillance shows a passenger in the male’s vehicle. The sheriff’s report stated that the subject drove eastbound on State Highway 18.

Around the same time, an employee at the 7-Eleven in Lake Arrowhead reported that a female subject entered the convenience store and attempted to pass a counterfeit $100 bill, which was refused.

Believing the two incidents might be related, deputies planned to follow up and to obtain video footage from the businesses. Anyone with information about the case should contact the Twin Peaks Sheriff’s Station at (909) 336-0600. To leave anonymous information, call the We-Tip Hotline at 1 (800) 78-CRIME (27463).
