A well-known Hollywood actor, traveling eastbound on State Highway 189 in Lake Arrowhead, apparently failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway at around 8:45 p.m. on Saturday, according to Officer J. Quintero of the California Highway Patrol (CHP). Actor Christopher McDonald was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

McDonald, 62, of West Hollywood, is best known for his roles as Darryl Dickinson in “Thelma & Louise” (1991), Shooter McGavin in “Happy Gilmore” (1996) and Ward Cleaver in the film adaptation of “Leave It to Beaver” (1997). He acted in nearly 200 other films, had recurring roles on several television shows and made guest appearances on numerous others.

No one was injured in the mishap, including McDonald. However, his classic 1999 silver Porsche Boxster suffered moderate damage after he struck a raised asphalt curb, hit a tree, and then hit a main gas line near the Stater Bros. market, the CHP record shows.

McDonald was arrested on Oct. 28 at 9:27 p.m., and was released without bail on Oct. 29 at 10:13 a.m.

No court appearance has been scheduled, but records from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department show that he is charged with allegedly violating California Vehicle Code §23152(A) and (B): driving under the influence of alcohol, and driving with a blood alcohol level exceeding 0.08 percent.

Officer Kundrath of the California Highway Patrol in Running Springs is investigating the incident, Quintero said.
