A search is in progress for a male subject who allegedly attacked his grandmother and his sister with a metal baseball bat, according to a report from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

Both victims were transported from their residence in Valley of Enchantment to Loma Linda Medical Center for treatment around 9 p.m. on Aug 13. The grandmother was immediately taken into surgery, due to the severity of her wounds.

The male subject reportedly got into an argument with his grandmother and pushed her onto the couch. He went to his bedroom where he retrieved a metal baseball bat. According to the sheriff’s report, he attacked his grandmother with the bat, allegedly striking her multiple times in the face, head, back, arms and hands.

The subject’s sister attempted to stop the violence and the male subject allegedly hit her several times with the baseball bat. The report reflects that both victims attempted to call 9-1-1. A dispatcher’s entry states that the grandmother believed the subject was going to kill her granddaughter. However, the subject interfered and hung up the phone.

The two victims managed to escape and ran outside where they flagged down deputies.

According to the deputies’ report, the grandmother suffered multiple injuries and was covered in blood. They said it appeared to them that both of her hands were broken, possibly from trying to defend herself from her grandson as he was swinging the baseball bat.

The subject fled the residence through the rear door, according to the report, and it appears that he later broke into a house down the street, where he stored a firearm.

The sheriff’s department utilized all available resources to locate the subject, but the deputies were unsuccessful.
