A 31-year-old resident of Arrowbear was arrested June 12 for allegedly stabbing a friend he has known for 20 years.

Christophe Jacob Dement is charged with California Penal Code §245(A)(1), assault with a deadly weapon capable of inflicting great bodily injury. He was released from county jail on June 14, with no court appearance scheduled yet.

According to a report from the Twin Peaks Sheriff’s Station, the victim told the responding deputy that his friend hit him and pulled a knife on him. During the fight, the victim was hit in the back of the head with an object, which he believed at the time was the knife.

The deputy verified that the victim had a wound on the back of his head that was bleeding. The victim identified Dement as the person who assaulted him. The report states that the victim was vague about what led up to the disturbance.

The deputy read Dement his Miranda rights and interviewed him at the scene. Dement stated that he did not stab the victim. He confirmed that they were fighting, but that he hit the victim only after the victim refused to leave Dement’s residence. Dement stated that both he and the victim had consumed “copious” amounts of alcohol throughout the day, the report stated.

The deputy located a knife in the residence, but concluded that it showed no signs of having been used in the incident. According to the deputy’s report, Dement removed it from the sheath and placed it above the fireplace when he learned that deputies were on the way.
