Thursday afternoon, April 26, was warm and sunny when Rim of the World High School boys baseball hosted Arroyo Valley and, with a 7 and 3 league record, the Fighting Scots were looking toward extending their standing.

As the first two innings finished, both teams were even, at 0 to 0. However, at the top of the third inning, Arroyo Valley started hitting and the inning ended with Arroyo – 4 and Rim – 0. But time had not yet run out for the Scots, and there were still opportunities to bring up the score.

Although the bats had begun to run cold for Rim, our team delivered on some great plays. Kyler Llewellyn, #22, playing short stop, stole a base hit – making a great back-handed catch – and then threw to first base for the out.

In a great play, first baseman James Worth, #8, ran for a pop fly toward the baseline fence, knowing he was going to crash into it to make the play. Unfortunately, the ball flew just over the fence!

Another outstanding play occurred when an Arroyo runner on first base tried to steal and got nailed with a throw at second base for the out – from catcher Deagan Risnes, #20.

I think everyone was hoping to see a comeback game, such as the one that occurred against Rialto High School a few weeks ago, hoping for the Rim bats to come alive after the fourth inning. But it didn’t happen. Other than that fourth inning, the boys played tough and allowed no more runs to be scored against them, shutting down Arroyo Valley for the remainder of the game. The final score remained 0 to 4.

The next home game is against San Gorgonio on May 5. Come out to watch Rim Boys baseball extend their lead in league competition.
