The Rim of the World High School Fighting Scots baseball team hosted their final home game for the season against Jurupa Hills High School on May 8 and came up short. It began with Rim pitcher Garrett Poblick taking the mound. Jurupa subsequently got the jump on him, earning two runs and leading the game 0 to 2.

The Fighting Scots remained scoreless until the top of the sixth inning when, with two Scots on base, Deagan Risnes slammed a rocket over the right field fence and brought in Colin Morris and Keegan Coleman for a three-run home run. The inning ended with a score of Rim – 3 and Jurupa Hills – 2.

Unfortunately, Jurupa scored two more runs at the top of the 7th inning. One was a heartbreaking, controversial play at home plate where the Jurupa runner was called safe, when many believed he should have been out.

Although tension was running high, the next play demonstrated Rim’s heart. At the next pitch, with two outs and runners at first and third, the runner at first base bolted for second. Scots catcher Tyler Avila fired the ball to second baseman Deagan.

At the same time, the runner on third sprinted for home as Deagan hurled the ball back to Tyler. The Jurupa runner attempted to charge through while the catcher, ball in glove, tagged the runner out.

The last inning finished scoreless, with an ending score of Rim – 3 and Jurupa – 4. Despite this crushing loss, the Fighting Scots played with spirit and skill!

On May 10, however, the Fighting Scots took on Jurupa Hills again – this time at an away game. The 3 to 4 loss on May 8 was made up with a win of Rim – 4, Jurupa – 3.

Tomorrow, May 18, the Fighting Scots will take on Academy for Academic Excellence (Apple Valley) for a neutral playoff game, part of the 2018 California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Southern Section Baseball Championships.
