The first home game for Rim of the World High School varsity boys basketball against the Big Bear High School Bears proved to be a frustrating loss. The non-conference game was on Nov. 22.

The Fighting Scots jumped out to take an early lead, but the Bears got into the game and recovered the lead, much to the frustration of Rim’s team. Their rhythm was off, the team was not connecting and they were not able to mount any real offense against the Bears or stop the Bears’ strong offense.

The first period set the tone as the Fighting Scots watched their lead slip away to an aggressive Big Bear team, which took an eight-point lead at the end of the first period. During the second period, the Fighting Scots got back into the game and scored 11 points, but were still down by nine. The first half of the game ended with a score Big Bear, 29, Rim, 20.

In the third period, Big Bear came out hard with a flurry of baskets, racking up a 22-point lead while shutting down the Fighting Scots’ offensive attack to only three points.

During the fourth period, Rim out-scored the Bears with 10 points, but it was not enough to change the outcome of the game. The final score was Big Bear, 54, Rim, 33.

The next varsity home game is against Serrano High School on Dec. 3 at 5 p.m. in the gym.
