The track meet against Indian Springs High School had been postponed originally, due to snow. It was rescheduled for last Monday, March 26. A cold Santa Ana wind was blowing that afternoon, the kind that made you need to leash your dogs on a walk or the next gust would blow them to Redlands. But the scheduled track meet was on.

The entire team was bundled up; getting out of the warm-ups was a challenge, and running an event was necessary just to keep warm.

Standouts during the meet were Taylor Debenedictis, crashing into the last hurdle to still pull out a win, and Katie Mashburn, finishing first in the hurdles with a time of 53 seconds. Chiara Smith finished first in the relays, Duffy Taylor was flying high on the long jump and Joshua Laizure cleared the bar in the high jump.

The girls easily beat Indian Springs, with a final score of Rim – 67, Indian Springs – 48. But it would come down to the final event for the boys, the 4x400, a sprinting relay.

“The boys pulled out the win with a final event victory in the 4x400m relay on the last leg,” Coach Joseph explained. “Taylor Debenedictis was able to catch and pass his opponent in the last 200 meters of the race. Good start for both our girls and boys.” The final score for boys track was Rim – 60, Indian Springs – 55.

The next home track meet is against San Gorgonio on April 6. Come on out, start on that summer tan and support the Boys and Girls Track Teams!
