The Fighting Scots sports teams have faced a challenging winter season during the 2019 to 2020 school year. Winning is not everything and by playing sports, Rim athletes develop character, gain perseverance and suffer personal sacrifices.

This season our students maintained their grades while simultaneously spending hours in practice. They played in freezing conditions on the soccer field and traveled distances, down the mountain, to away games.

Rim student-athletes often came home late, tired and just wanted to rest. Persistence and perserverance drove them to get up and do it all over again. It is all about the love of the sport and the competition that drives our students to continue to play sports.

Although the season was winding down, it was a time for celebration as we commended our seniors last week during the final home games of girl’s soccer, girl’s basketball and boys basketball. Displays of balloons, banners and flowers demonstrated support for Rim seniors, as each of the athletes were recognized alongside their parents before they played in their final home game of the season: ending their carriers in winter sports at Rim of the World High School.

We want to acknowledge the following seniors from each of the winter sports programs.

Lady Scots basketball team: Liberty Mills, Ashlee Hosking, Katelyn Reyes, Marina Almaraz and Louise Bill.

Lady Scots soccer: Dayana Gonzalez, Lorena Jimenez, Natilie Wilihite, Jade Morales, and Jocelyn Artiaga.

Fighting Scots basketball: Kuke Peterson, Jack Wootten, Gianni Navarro, Darien Needham, Austin O’Kelly, Austin Shoopman, Noah Mendis and Jason Sherman.

Rim wrestling: Esau Jones, Eli Wiesz, Jacob Gregson, Brock Chapman and Evan Steenson.

Fighting Scots boy’s soccer: Bayron Debroy Perez, Rodolfo Bautista, Alfredo Serrato Guzman, Juan Lopez, Tristan Townley, Omar Martinez, Rolando Ortiz, Brian Torres and Ivan Garcia.

To our Coaches, thank you for the countless hours that you have given to the student-athletes; by helping them become better at their sport while supporting them through character development making the become the men and women they are today and for the future.

Teachers, we thank you for your academic support, keeping the students on track and providing them the education they will need for their future.

Parents, we thank you for your support and encouragement and all the hard work that you have done to help your student-athlete get to this point. Your job is not done, it will never be as you watch your student move on from high school to start their own lives. Remember you were very much a part of their inspiration from the beginning: thank you.
