Last week the Rim of the World Lady Scots tennis team scrimmaged with Yucaipa High School in triple-digit weather. Despite the heat, the Lady Scots played with great confidence and passion.

Some of the highlights in the varsity match were with doubles team Paulina Ridland and Justine Davis. “This is Paulina and Justine’s second year as a doubles team, and their confidence was evident on the court,” said Assistant Coach Rebekah Johnson. “They were able to defeat the number two doubles team 6-2, the number three team 6-1 and played extremely well against the number one team in a close set, losing 5-7.”

Singles player Caroline Stack was able to defeat the number three singles player 6-4. Other close matches included doubles team Emily Dominguez/Heidi Sears and Jaycee Nelson/Madison Oaks and singles player Kylie Stehmeier.

“This is the best start of the season we have seen in years,” said Coach Julie Perkins. “The girls showed their drive for success on the courts on Thursday and I have no doubt in my mind this will be another exciting season in Lady Scots tennis.”

The junior varsity team also showed great determination and domination on the courts. “Our roster this season is full of extremely talented girls,” said Johnson. “We are so proud of where our JV players are at and how much they improve daily.”

Natalie Peterson was able to contribute one set in singles and a second set in doubles paired up with Mollie Kortsen. Other doubles teams that contributed sets were Abby Spivey/Tara Marshall, Claire Schumate/Grace Schumate, Chloe Urioste/Destiny Ruiz and Katelin McCoustin/Daisy Erber.

Both varsity and junior varsity teams hit the road this week in matches against Banning High School and Hesperia High School. Rim JV has its first home match against Chino Hills High School on Sept. 9. Come out and support Lady Scots tennis.
