The Boat Races Continue

Sailing this weekend, on Aug. 10 and 11, was challenging. There was, once again, a variety of conditions. Saturday had great winds in the afternoon while Sunday found the sailors looking for little breezes. Despite that, both days were beautiful. It is hard to beat a summer afternoon on Lake Arrowhead, with its clear skies, warm temperature and cool, refreshing water.

At the starting line before the start of each race, the race committee provides the course. The courses are made up of a variety of buoys (marks) that the boats must round. The boats are then sent out on a different course every race.

Once a boat rounds the required buoys, which are located at different locations throughout the lake, they head for the finish line. This is why you might see groups of boats heading in different directions during the races.

Since this is this three-week series if the longest of the summer, it leaves room for the racers to potentially change positions for who will prevail and be in the winner circle. Every weekend, there are competitors ranging between the ages of five and 75 contending for pride, glory and bragging rights. As we look over the results so far, remember there are still three races to go and a lot can happen.

Results from the first six races over the past two weekends are posted below. The summer is winding down with only two official weekends left to the Yacht Club sailing season. That’s right, summer has almost come to a conclusion, but there is still time to watch the races from one of the vantage points around the lake or from the Lake Arrowhead Village.
