Last week, the Rim of the World High School girls volleyball team had two home matches.

The first match was on Tuesday, Oct. 1, against the Jurupa Hills High School Spartans. The Lady Scots played well as a team and put the Spartans away in three sets with scores of 25-13, 25-13 and 25-14.

“…we all played very well and we played as a team!” said Abbie Gabera, one of the players. “…I started out a little rocky. Toward the end, I was doing better, got out of my head and I just started hitting balls again.”

Another player, Daylin Risnes, said the team played better than before.

“I thought it went well and that [we] had better competition than we usually do. It was cool!” Risnes said. “Actually, it was better competition than last week and was a more exciting match.”

Risnes added that she didn’t believe she had “…many errors and did very well” throughout the game.

The second home league match was against the Eisenhower High School Eagles on Thursday, Oct. 3.

The Lady Scots took a quick lead in the first set and kept the lead without any real challenge until the end, where the girls appeared to become a little comfortable, allowing the Eagles to score several points. With the score being Rim, 24, Eisenhower, 13, the Lady Scots got back in the game, overcoming the Eagles and finishing out the second set at 25-13.

The Lady Scots’ “casualness” from the first game extended into the beginning of the second set. The Eagles came out aggressively and started to score points. Eventually, the Lady Scots settled down and took the lead, keeping the pressure on the Eagles and finishing the second set with a score of 25-10.

In the third set, the Lady Scots confidently handled the Eagles and finished the final set with a score of 25-18, winning the match and extending their league record to 6-0.

The next home match will be on Tuesday, Oct. 8, against the Rialto Knights starting at 4:30 p.m. in the gym. The Lady Scots will need to be focused and come out to play hard, as the Knights have a league record of 9-0. This should be a great match, so students, community members and parents come out and support the Rim of the World Lady Scots volleyball team.
