The Rim of the World High School football team extended its season record to 4-0 on Friday, Sept. 20, after they traveled to Perris and faced the Perris High School Panthers.

Rim took an early lead in the first quarter with a touchdown and an extra kick by J. Salvatierra. They finished the quarter with a score of Rim, 7, and Perris, 0.

The second quarter was when the Fighting Scots offensive really came together. With the depth of talent from CJ King, Austin Scoopman and Phillip Smith, the Fighting Scots steamrolled over the Perris Panthers, finishing out the second quarter after putting 29 points on the board. Finishing out the first half, the Fighting Scots took a commanding lead over the Panthers with a score of 36-0.

The second half was all about containment as the Fighting Scots overpowered the Panthers’ offense. In the third and fourth quarter, Rim scored another two touchdowns finishing the game with a final score of Fighting Scots, 50 and Perris Panthers, 0.

Some highlights of the game included Austin Shoopman and CJ King both raking in five solo tackles and one assist, Luke Miller with four solo tackles and one assist, and Davin Whitaker and Jason Sherman with four solo tackles each.

Offensively, the Panthers were stunned as the Fighting Scots came at them in all directions. Taking the lead was Quarterback Brock Chapman, who orchestrated the plays and was responsible for three out of four complete passes for a total of 54 yards. Phillip Smith racked up 273 yards and four touchdowns. Austin Shoopman had four carries, a total of 36 yards rushing and one touchdown. CJ King had one carry for an impressive 17 yards and a touchdown. Luke Miller had two pass receptions for 43 yards and one touchdown.

Kelly Owen is out for the season with a broken tibia. Owen was responsible for the fabulous play against the Bishop Broncos, when he ran the kickoff 86 yards for a touchdown. He will be missed and we wish him a speedy recovery.

Friday, Sept. 27, is the Homecoming game. Let’s have a big showing to support the Fighting Scots football as they try to extend their season record to 5-0 in their pre-season game against Arrowhead Christian. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
