Bikers Race at Rim Nordic Despite Weather

Posted: Thursday, May 30, 2019 9:00 am

Rain, sleet and snow could not keep 40 people away from the first Rim Nordic XC mountain bike race this past Sunday, May 19.

As the weather forecast changed twice daily for three days, promoters Bev and Kerry Brown had to make a decision, only thinking it was going to rain, not snow. So, the race was on!

Luckily only a quarter inch of snow fell the night before the race and the weather cleared for about four hours, allowing most racers to get through the course without rain. However, the wind and cold temperatures, which was in the low 30s, made for a very cold race.

All racers finished, awards were handed out and they were all on the road home before the next storm arrived later in the day.

A local, Charlie Farrell, battled the elements to take first place in his category, racing one lap of the 7-mile course.

The next event is Sunday, July 14, promising better weather, for sure.

At every xc event, there is a free kids race for youth under 11-years-old. T-shirts, medals, number plates and goodie bags are given to each kid who participates.

Helmets are required. The bike park opens Memorial Day Weekend, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to ride the 15-mile trail system with lots of single track trails.
