Graduation is right around the corner, and spring sports at Rim of the World High School have come to an end, after teams competed in league finals and/or California Interscholastic Federation (CIF).

Spring season began at the high school in early April and, although we were up against some tricky weather, the teams managed to push through it in order to continue practicing.

Rim High varsity baseball had a successful season, with an overall 13 losses and 14 wins, and 9 and 6 in league. The Fighting Scots made it to CIF, where they played against The Academy for Academic Excellence (Apple Valley) on May 18, and won the game, with a final score of 5 to 0. The game was part of the Division Five Tournament.

Because of their win over Apple Valley, Rim advanced in CIF and played against the Malibu Sharks on May 22. Unfortunately, the Sharks beat the Scots with an end score of 4 to 0, ending CIF for Scots baseball.

Despite CIF ending for the Scots, it did not take away from the impressive season they had. According to MaxPreps.com, the Rim Scots were third in league out of six schools. Jurupa Hills High School took first place in league, with end stats at 12 wins and three losses. San Gorgonio High School came in second, with 11 wins and four losses.

The Rim Lady Scots softball team also had an impressive season, coming in at 9 and 9 overall, and 5 and 7 in the San Andreas League.

Out of six schools, the Lady Scots placed fourth, with Jurupa Hills in first, Rialto in second and San Gorgonio in third place.

The Lady Scots did, however, advance to CIF. On May 15, the team competed against the Victor Valley Jackrabbits as part of the CIF Championship Division Six Tournament. Rim won the game, with a final score of 8 to 6, and advanced in CIF.

On May 17, coming off the win, the Lady Scots played against the University Prep Jaguars. Even though they had just come off a strong win, Rim lost the game, with an end score of 1 to 12, ending its CIF season.

The Lady Scots had a team banquet on May 24 to celebrate their successful, growing season.

Junior Feliz Allen and senior Anna Howe made All League First Team and senior Halie VanDyke Pederson made Honorable Mention for San Andreas League.

Nine seniors graduated out of the program this year, including Anna, Halie, Cora Anderson, Kaylee Pope, Mackenzie (Kenzie) Limpus, Hailieanna Morasky, Alejandra Helguera, Shelby Avila and Hannah Moss.

Rim High boys tennis came back from a strong season last year, and kept up their winning ways. The team, for the fourth consecutive year, finished in first place for the San Andreas League. The boys ended their season with an overall record of 15 and 2, with 8 and 0 in league.

The team then went on to play in CIF Division Five, which began on May 9. During the first round of CIF, the Fighting Scots won against Sultana High School, with a score of 17 to 1. Because of this win, the team advanced to the second round of CIF, competing against Santa Fe High School. Head Coach Julie Perkins shared that the boys beat Santa Fe and advanced to quarter finals against Oakwood – a game which resulted in a loss for the Fighting Scots.

“We placed in the top eight out of 110 teams,” Perkins enthused. “So proud of these boys...we haven’t passed the first round since 2014, so for them to go to the quarter finals was a great thrill!”

The Rim High golf team had an undefeated, strong season. It ended the season 9 and 0 in the San Andreas League, and went on to compete in CIF at Los Serranos Golf Course in Chino Hills on May 14.

The Rim boys volleyball team finished the season with an overall of 0 and 7, and 0 and 7 in the San Andreas League. It was a new team this year.

The Rim High Track and Field team also competed during the spring. However, there was no current information on MaxPreps.com.

Rim athletes will condition, practice and prep to start again come Fall 2018.

Congratulations, Fighting Scots!
