Daffodils and Tulips are abloom across our mountain communities, the winter snows and cold are retreating, and the Flying Scots hosted their only home track meet at Rim of the World High School last Thursday, March 28.

Because of all the snow Rim had to move their original first home meet down the mountain, but last Thursday was a beautiful cool, sunny day for the track meet.

The field portion began with the shot put and leading the way was Daniel Dulin, a multi-sport athlete who has played football, basketball, and boys volleyball. His primary event is the shot put, where his longest shot is 49 feet, and he occasionally throws the discus. Dulin currently divides his time between the volleyball team and track.

Another shot putter is Nate Marie, freshman. He has played on the varsity football team the wrestling team and now is throwing a 12-pound steel ball.  Marie said his 43-foot shot during practice was his longest yet.

At the meet’s end, Coach Joseph spoke about RIM’s results.

“The boys won and the girls lost by one point,” Joseph said. “We had some great races. Joseph Potz is now the league leader in the 3200, and Hannah Johnson is close to being the league leader in the 100.”
