With the weather a little cool, it was a great day for soccer as the Lady Scots soccer team hosted the San Gorgonio Spartans at Townsend Stadium last Thursday, Jan. 23. The game got underway at 3:15 p.m. and both teams played evenly until the fifteen-minute mark when Dayana Gonzalez had a short breakaway and was about to take a shot on goal when Spartans’ defense shut her down. That was only the beginning as just a few minutes later in another breakaway, Dayana Gonzalez again was able to drive the ball and kick it past the Spartan goalie, putting the Scots on the scoreboard, Rim, 1, Spartans, 0.

Around the 30-minute mark, the Spartans scored a goal to tie the game at 1-1, but there was still plenty of time for the Lady Scots to score in the first half.  With less than 5 minutes left in the second half, Courtney D’Avignon received a short pass and dribbled the ball down the field, taking a shot on goal, making it all net as the first half closed with the score, Lady Scots, 2, and the Spartans, 1.

In the second half of the game, the Spartans came out strong, putting the Rim defense on notice.  After several attempts, the Spartans were able to score a goal, tying the game at 2-2.  Unfortunately, the Lady Scots were not able to mount much of an offensive attack and had to play defense during the second half of the game.  The San Gorgonio Spartans were able to score another goal in the second half of play, finishing the game with Rim, 2 and San Gorgonio, 3.

The next home game is against Eisenhower on Jan. 30 at 3:15 p.m. On Feb. 6, all seniors will be recognized at the final home game against Arroyo Valley.  Come out and support the Lady Scots Soccer team and congratulate the seniors for their final home game.
