A Lake Arrowhead man who brought a new friend up for the weekend awoke on the morning of Aug. 13 to discover his 2015 Jeep Wrangler and the friend were gone, reported Altaira McComb, acting public information officer for the sheriff’s department in Twin Peaks.

According to the police report, the vehicle owner said he tried for an entire day to persuade the friend to return his green Jeep. He finally gave up and called in his report.

McComb stated that the sheriff’s department contacted the friend and informed him that if he did not return the vehicle, it would be grand theft auto. The friend did not return the vehicle. McComb said deputies were notified to check three areas near known possible addresses of the friend, two of which are in Adelanto.

The police report documents that the Wrangler owner met the man identified as “Soto” through another friend a few days prior to the weekend. He picked up his new friend at someone else’s house, and does not know where the man lives. He allowed the visitor to drive the car that evening to pick up a pizza, after which the guest returned the keys to the owner. He did not give the friend permission to drive the vehicle again.

The Jeep and the guest disappeared during the night from the 900 block of South State Highway 173.
